To Our Valued Families We Serve...
In light of the recent Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak/Pandemic, we are taking extraordinary health and safety precautions at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home and Roberts Funeral Home, when it comes to the well-being of our families, our funeral directors and our staff.
We have had several people reach out to us to ask questions about what is allowed for funeral services and how that will directly affect them.
As of Monday, March 23, 2020, per Governor Cuomo's "New York State On 'Pause' Executive Order", the New York State Health Department guidelines, funeral homes are allowed to conduct private calling hours, private funeral services and private graveside services for families with limiting to immediate family only and that is restricted to a maximum of ten (including funeral home staff) or fewer. It is my understanding that for larger immediate families, the family may hold services by staggering people with the 'under ten' limitation. We are offering the same types of services as we always have been able to which includes full funerals, full service cremations, direct cremation services, and memorial services with the exception of public gatherings. Public calling hours, funerals or graveside services will not be able to take place at this time. Each individual funeral home in New York State may also have a separate, more strict policy in place to protect their families and their staff. In accordance with the Executive Order and the New York State Health Department, it is recommended that burials and cremations take place now, however, if a family wishes to wait to have services until a later time, they may do so.
At this time, we are first asking our at-need family members to have phone or digital conference arrangements to collect information for death certificates and obituaries, and selecting burial and cremation options from the comfort of their homes... however, we are also prepared to help families through their difficult time in person, with online arrangements, or in any way they feel the most comfortable. We will always be here to assist our families as we always have been.
We would like to acknowledge the importance of our first responders, the EMT's, Police, Fireman, and the front line of our healthcare systems, doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, certified nurses aides, custodial positions, etc. as well as our fellow funeral directors and staff that are dealing with the end stages of the virus.
In conclusion, we are asking that at this time, please try to stay home as much as possible. We are doing our part and we ask that you do that as well. Please stay home for the love of all humanity and so that we all may resume a normal life as soon as possible. Sending love and prayers to all affected by this pandemic.
