Ronald S. Metz, Sr. Obituary

Ronald S. Metz, Sr., 85, of Cemetery Road, Inghams Mills, Town of Manheim, Little Falls, New York passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York after a brief illness.

He was born on May 8, 1938 in Salisbury Center, New York and was the son of the late, Howard and Edith (Johnson) Metz. Ronald was educated at Little Falls High School and graduated with the Class of 1956.

On January 5, 1957, Ronald was united in marriage to the former Joan Audrey Trasky at the First Baptist Church in Little Falls, New York. The couple shared a loving union of 53 years when Mrs. Metz passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the age of 72.

Shortly after graduation, Ronald enlisted in the United States Airforce in 1957. Along with his wife, Ronald’s service in the Air Force brought them to many bases across the United States as well as several countries including Japan. After eight years of faithful service to his country, he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant, E-5 and received an honorable discharge in April of 1965.

Ronald worked in several factories in the valley throughout his years and was last employed at Johnstown Knit in Johnstown, New York as a quality control manager. He retired in 2000 after several years of employment.

In his younger years, Ronald enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing. He loved watching football and was an enthusiastic Kansas City Chiefs fan. Ron was a former member of the Little Falls American Legion.

He is survived by his children, Cori Jerin of Inghams Mills, NY, Ronald S. Metz, Jr. and his wife, Rhoni of Bella Vista, CA, Karen Atkins and her husband, Mike of Inghams Mills, NY, Jodi Cronin and her husband, Mitchell of Inghams Mills, NY and Shane Metz of Inghams Mills, NY; grandchildren, Dana Frazier, Denise Holdridge, DJ Holdridge, Jr., Dale Callendar, Dustin Holdridge, Casey Jerin, Richard Jerin, Jr., Jade Metz, Ronald S. Metz, III, Karri Wormuth, Kayla Van Wormer, Michael Atkins, Jr., Cody Cronin, Zachary Cronin, Shane Jaquay, and Hannah Metz; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janeth Thomas of IL and Lorraine Viola and her husband, Sunny of OH; sisters-in-law, Judy Metz of Ilion, NY and Beverly Trasky of Little Falls, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ronald was predeceased by his oldest daughter, Bambi Russett in 2015, a brother, Bill Metz, a sister, Phyllis Jackson and her husband, Don, a son-in-law, Richard Jerin, Sr. and two brothers-in-law, Tommy Thomas and Merwin Trasky.

In keeping with family wishes, calling hours and funeral will be held privately at Roberts Funeral Home, 3 East Faville Ave, Dolgeville, New York with family Pastor Gertrude Ortlieb. A private burial will be held at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, New York with the United States Air Force Honor Guard conducting their funeral honors.

The family would like to thank Ron’s grandson, Shane Jaquay for all his support and comfort that he offered his grandfather during his final days and would also like to thank the staff of Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York as well as Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their care.
