Marjorie N. Youker Obituary

Marjorie Nan Youker, 88, of Dolgeville, NY, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2024 at Little Falls Hospital in Little Falls, NY after a brief illness.

She was born on June 24, 1935 in Salisbury, the daughter of Fay W. and Minnie (Silvernail) Youker. Marge’s family moved to Dolgeville in 1946 and she graduated from Dolgeville Central School in 1952. She worked at Dolge’s Grocery, Daniel Green Company and other local factories before going to Utica College where she graduated in 1964. She taught math at Utica Free Academy, Little Falls Central School and finally back to her alma mater, Dolgeville Central School, where she retired in 1996.

Music was a very important part of Marge’s life. She was known for her beautiful Tenor voice, singing in numerous choruses including the Mohawk Valley Choral Society, the 1991 Herkimer County Celebration Choir, and for many years in the Dolgeville United Methodist Church Choir. She also played saxophone for the Summer Community Band concerts.

Marge had been an active member of Auskerada Maquaes Rock City Chapter #204 Order of the Eastern Star, serving as their matron in 2000 and 2001. She was a member and took on leadership roles in the Dolgeville-Manheim Historical Society, Stratford Historical Society, and area senior citizen groups. Her love for animals showed through her support of the Herkimer County Humane Society and H.A.L.O. of Little Falls, and she was one of the original members of the Dolgeville Forward C.A.T. Project. In honor of her community involvement, she was named Dolgeville’s 2017 Violet Festival Queen.

She had a deep Christian faith and grew up in the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, in which she was an active member her entire life, as well as an attendant at the Salisbury and Stratford United Methodist Churches.

She is survived by her nephew Erwin (Buck) Youker Jr. and wife Karla, Ilion, NY, nieces Lorraine Hinderliter, Rose Dufresne, and Joan Jacques of Sprakers, NY, and nephew David Youker of Virginia, her two much loved “boys” Danny and Toby, adopted from H.A.L.O., and many friends and church family members in the community. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Robert Youker, and half-brothers Erwin Youker, Sr. and Louie Youker.

We would like to thank the staff at Little Falls Hospital for making her last moments comfortable with their compassionate care.

A graveside service will take place at the Dolgeville Cemetery in Dolgeville, NY where she will be laid to rest with her family at a date and time to be announced in the Spring of 2024.

The family is being cared for by locally owned and family operated Roberts Funeral Home, 3 E. Faville Ave., Dolgeville, NY along with Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, NY, Cremations and Funerals.
