Lawrence "Larry" Nicholas Fazio Obituary

Mr. Lawrence "Larry" Nicholas Fazio, 79, of Dolgeville, New York, passed away Saturday February 6, 2021 at BassettMedical Center in Cooperstown, New York with his family by his side.

Larry was born on February 11, 1941 in Dolgeville, New York and was the son of  the late, Nicholas and Helen (Minicozzi) Fazio. He was educated in Dolgeville schools and was very proud to have completed his GED in 1997.

On June 20th, 1970, Larry was united in marriage to Betty Jane Miller at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in  Dolgeville, New York. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2020.

In younger years, he worked alongside his father at Nick's Mobil Station located on the corner of North Main and State Streets. He was last employed by Tumble Forms, both located in Dolgeville.

When Larry was a teenager, he developed Epilepsy, as a result he became an early candidate for a pioneering brain surgery in Montreal which only gave him a 50/50 chance of survival.  He persevered and continued a full and happy life with a great sense of humor.

He was a devout parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and sang in the St. Joseph church choir. He was a former member of the Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department, the Mohawk Valley Choral Society, and the Dolgeville Lions Club.

Larry was an avid runner and participated in the Boilermaker Road race for 20 years as well as many other local races and a marathon at the age of 50.  Larry was a lover of baseball and followed the New York Mets. He was fond of telling the story of when he batted in 12RBIs in a single game as a youngster and even wrote a small book about his experiences. He also enjoyed reading, wood making, and lottery tickets.

Larry was one of the nicest people you would know and he will be deeply missed by his family, church and community.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty J. Fazio at home; his son, Larry James Fazio and his wife, Sarolta Krisztina Fazio of Asheville, NC; his brother, Nicholas Fazio and his wife, Theresa Fazio of Utica; and a sister and brother in law, Shirley McClinnis and her husband, Steven McClinnis of Georgia. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
