John R. Steciak, Sr. Obituary

John Richard Steciak Sr., 99, of the Town of Salisbury, New York fell asleep in death unexpectedly early Monday morning, May 24, 2021 at Little Falls Hospital, with his son & daughter-in-law by his side, after becoming ill at home.

He was born August 5, 1921 in Little Falls, NJ to a coal-mining family of 9 from Pennsylvania. In 1925, John and his family relocated to Salisbury, New York where John would grow up to love the community he was a part of for nearly 100 years. Everyone who knew John over the decades knew 2 things about him: He thrived on hard work, and making an adventure of life. From farming and logging, to being a force to be reckoned with at the card table, to giving the local kids rides in his airplane in the 1950’s/60’s- whatever he chose to do in his life, he did it full throttle.

John was united in marriage to the former Christine Youker, with whom he shared a union of nearly 70 years until she passed away in 2018.

In September 2011, John and Christine were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses. They enjoyed the many friendships they formed at the Kingdom Hall and learning of a bright hope for mankind’s future on earth. It became the most treasured part of John’s life, and he wanted to share his hope with others whenever he had the chance.

He is survived by his loving son, John R. Jr and his very beloved daughter-in-law, Julee of Salisbury, NY; his special granddaughters, Katelynn (Jason) Horth of Salisbury, Jaclynn (Branden) Davis of Dolgeville, and 2 cherished great-grandsons, Jaxson Davis and Henry Davis, along with many special nieces and close friends whom he loved dearly.

To tell all the tales, stories and adventures in John’s 100 years would take up more space then this paper could ever contain. He was an amazing Dad, father-in-law, and Grandpa, a good hearted man, and a true friend. He was a living legend who be sorely missed by every life he touched. He truly lived life to the fullest.

In accord with John's wishes, a private burial will take place for the immediate family at the Salisbury Rural Cemetery in Salisbury Center, New York. Arrangements are being cared for by Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York.
