Susan A. (Kuchman) VanOlst Obituary

Susan A. (Kuchman) VanOlst, 72, of Salisbury Center, New York, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 6, 2024 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York with her loving family by her side.

She was born on November 12, 1951 in Little Falls, New York and was the daughter of the late, Harry and Elizabeth (Jaiken) Kuchman. Susan attended Dolgeville Central School and graduated with the Class of 1969.

Susan attended National Tractor Trailer School where she earned a Class A Truck Drivers License. Over the years, she worked many jobs but the career she loved the most was being a Herkimer County 911 Operator. During her 19 years of service, Susan helped many local families through difficult emergency situations.

In her spare time, Susan enjoyed reading mystery or horror books, riding her horses, doing word puzzles, Sudoku, shopping, farming and sitting outside with Shasta. Her most valuable time was spent in the company of her loving family and friends including, Nanette Roesler and Marguerite Herring.

Susan fought hard through many illnesses with a strong will to survive. She had a huge heart and was the rock of her family. A cherished and wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend who was loved by many- Susan will be missed dearly.

Susan is survived by two sons, David VanOlst of Salisbury Center, NY and Daniel VanOlst and his wife, Diane of Salisbury Center, NY; grandchildren, Tereza VanOlst of Salisbury Center, NY, Sabbith VanOlst and his wife, Olivia of Herkimer, NY and Kerisa VanOlst of Salisbury Center, NY; a brother, Harry Kuchman of Salisbury Center, NY; and her special cat, Zeb.

She was predeceased by her parents, a brother, David Kuchman and her dog, Shasta.

A Celebration of Life reception will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. at the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club, 697 Peckville Road, Dolgeville, New York 13329. All are welcome to attend to greet the family. 

The family is being cared for by locally owned and family operated Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street Dolgeville, New York, Cremations and Funerals.
