Sarah M. Griffin Obituary

Sarah M. Griffin, 63, of Stratford, New York passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York after a brief illness. At the time of her passing, she had the comfort and love of her husband, Kevin by her side.

She was born on August 31, 1959 in Fonda, New York and was the daughter of Clarence H. Mykel and the late, Catherine M. (Van Alstyne) Oliver. Sarah was educated at local schools where she received her diploma.

On December 17, 2006, Sarah was united in marriage to Kevin M. Griffin, Sr. at their home in Stratford, New York. The couple recently celebrated 17 years of marriage together.

She spent the majority of her career as a shipping manager for Gehring Tricot Industries in Dolgeville, New York. She worked for over 20 years for the company until one month ago.

In her spare time, Sarah enjoyed fishing, socializing, watching movies, staying connected to family and friends through Facebook and particularly enjoyed her friendships she formed at her workplace. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Kevin M. Griffin, Sr. at home; her father, Clarence H. Mykel and his wife, Helen of Gloversville, NY; her two sons, Billy Zemanek of Gloversville, NY and Mike Zemanek of Gloversville, NY; two step-children, Kevin M. Griffin, Jr. of Auburn, NY and Jennifer Jaikin and her husband, Jimmy of Salisbury, NY; grandchildren, Iviane Keller of Stratford, Mike Zemanek and Makayla Zemanek, both of Gloversville, NY, Cassandra Jaikin, Alexia Jaikin and Gabriella Jaikin all of Salisbury, NY; her siblings, Sharon Kenyon, Harold Travis, Dennis Travis, Leland Mykel, Leslie Mykel, Lyle Mykel, Sandra Mykel Ellithorpe, Jeffrey Mykel, Michelle Mykel D’Onofrio, William Mykel, Jan Mykel Wiedemann, Amy Mykel McCray, and Cheryl Mykel; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; many nieces nephews and extended family.

Sarah was predeceased by her mother, Catherine M. (Van Alstyne) Oliver.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329. There will be no formal funeral service. A Celebration of Life could possibly be held during the summer at a time to be announced.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, NY and Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY for their kind and compassionate care that was shown to Sarah this past month.
