Robert “Bob” R. Sheppard, 76, a lifelong Dolgeville, New York resident, passed away on Thursday morning, October 19, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, New York after several days of heart complications. At the time of his passing, he had the love and support of his cherished family by his side.
He was born on April 21, 1947 in Little Falls, New York and was the son of the late Henry and Guadalupe (Vasquez) Sheppard. Bob was educated at Dolgeville Central School.
Bob enlisted in the United States Army on April 1, 1969 and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on November 5, 1970.
Bob was employed by the Village of Dolgeville as the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works for 3o plus years until his retirement in 2001.
He was formerly married to Lori Sheppard where she and Bob continued to share a life companion partnership.
Bob was a member of the Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years, Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department Benevolent, the American Legion, and the Dolgeville Ambulance Corp.
He who enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Bob took great pride in taking care of his home inside and outside. He was a true patriot and loved his country. A loving companion, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, he will be deeply missed by his family and community.
Bob is survived by his life companion, Lori Sheppard of Salisbury, NY; his children, Alicia Sovis of Little Falls, NY, Jeffery Yoran of Salisbury, NY, Kelsey Charles and her husband, Gene of Dolgeville, NY, Bobbijo Augar and her companion, Andrzej Gadek of Deerfield, NY, and Lisa Kretser and her husband, George of Ephratah, NY; his grandchildren, Dylan Rockwell, Fila Sovis, Crimson Sovis, Orion Charles, Maverick Charles, Tyler Kretser and Toby Kretser; a great-grandson, Chansin Kretser; a brother, Henry Sheppard, Jr. of Gloversville, NY; several nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York. A funeral service will take place on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Deacon Jim Bower officiating. Procession will follow to St. Joseph’s Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. Members of the New Hartford American Legion Post 1376 will honor Bob with a 21-Gun Salute and the members of the United States Army Honor Guard will accord their funeral honors at the conclusion of the committal prayers.
