Larry H. Miles, 76, of Oppenheim, New York passed away peacefully on Friday morning, June 17, 2022 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York with his loving wife and family by his side.

He was born on September 11, 1945 in Little Falls, New York and was the son of the late Howard and Elizabeth Miles. Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School and graduated with the Class of 1965.

On August 20, 1999, Larry was united in marriage to Virginia “Ginny” Jean Lyon in Oppenheim, New York. The couple would have shared 23 years of marriage together this year.

Larry spent 28 years of his working life dedicated to General Electric in Utica, New York as a machinist. He then transferred to Remington Arms in Ilion, New York where he spent his last seven years of service to the company until his retirement in 2006.

Larry was a long-time member of the Hilltop Volunteer Fire Company. Prior to his membership with Hilltop, he was a member of the R.G.L. Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a former member of the Lassellsville United Methodist Church and a member of the N.R.A. He enjoyed playing cards, his family hunting camp on Denure Road, Town of Ephratah, many years of camping spent on Peck Lake, in younger years, bowling for the Dopp’s Inn bowling team, spending time in his man cave in the garage and being an avid Genesee beer lover. He had a great love for his family and grandkids, especially his grandson, Blake, for whom he had a special bond with. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia “Ginny” J. Miles at home; his children, Jodi Decker and her companion, Matt Simonelli of Dolgeville, NY, Greg Yatarola of Annapolis, MD, and Guy Yatarola of Stratford, NY; “Poppy’s Kids”, Mariah Decker and her companion, Dylan Wheeler of St. Johnsville, NY and Blake Decker and his companion, Erika Wellington of Dolgeville, NY; a great-grandson, Declan Wheeler; and special friends, Larry Sanders and Harold and Betty Weaver.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Lizzy Miles and a sister, Jane Ann Stearns.
