Frances Wesley Obituary


Frances Wesley, 85, of Mount Dora, FL and formerly of Dolgeville, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday morning, November 26, 2021 after a prolonged illness. 
 

She was born on September 7, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York and was the daughter of the late, Frank Svet and Millie Krish Svet. The family moved to Richfield Springs during WWII where Frances attended Richfield Central School and graduated with the Class of 1954. Frances also took courses at MVCC in Utica, NY. 
 

On April 26, 1958, Frances was united in marriage to Robert J. Wesley of Dolgeville NY. The couple lived in Dolgeville and Salisbury Center, NY before moving to Mt. Dora, Florida in 1981. Frances was preceded in death by her husband Robert Wesley who passed away on August 30, 1985. 
 

Frances was a devoted Roman Catholic and was a current parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Mt. Dora, FL and a former parishioner and Catholic Women's Club member of St. Joseph’s Church in Dolgeville, NY. She was a member of the St. Theresa Society in Richfield Springs, NY 
 

Frances Worked for NY Bell Telephone Co. as a phone operator during high school and after graduation. She later worked as a payroll professional and secretary at Daniel Green Shoe Co, UNIVAC Corp. and Salada Foods in the Mohawk Valley of NY. After moving to Florida in 1981 she worked in payroll and customer service positions for Sprint in Altamonte Springs, FL until her retirement in 2001. She worked part-time at Publix Supermarket until being diagnosed with cancer in 2014. 
 

Frances had a lifelong passion for creating and collecting, and was a lifelong member of many craft and collecting associations as well as fellowship societies as listed below. 
 

- Member of ITPA (Independent Telephone Pioneers of America)
 - Charter member of the Salisbury Ridgerunners Snowmobile Club - Charter member of the Salisbury NY Historical Society 
- Life member of the ATA (American Topical Assoc.) 
- Life member AFDS (American First Day Cover Society) stamp collecting and Philatelic Group - A member of the SNPJ ( Slovenian National Benefit Society) 
- A twenty plus years member of the Dade County Quilting Guild, Mt Dora, FL 
- She acted as an election board member in Salisbury, NY and Lake County, FL 

 

She enjoyed quilting and creating quilts for charity, being an Avon distributor and fundraising for many charities including children’s charities and Habitat for Humanity. She was a life-long stamp collector. Her work as a craftswoman and mentor is widely appreciated by the everyone that knew her. 
 

Frances is survived by her family; a brother, Frank Svet, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn of Dayton, OH; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eddie and Carol Wesley of Dolgeville, NY, Marie Kiesel of Myrtle Beach, SC; nieces and nephews, Marie Svet, Christopher Wesley, Joey Wesley, Bethanne Volpe and Billy Kiesel of Ashland, VA, Tina Melton, Quincy, Illinois ; great-niece, Annette Sebrell, Matthew McIvor, Dillon Melton, Kaley Johnson; cousins, Andrew Koshar , Joanne Koshar and John Koshar; and many extended family members.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home location, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York in conjunction with Roberts Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 31 North Helmer Avenue, Dolgeville, New York with Father Brian Slezak officiating. A spring committal service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dolgeville, New York where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Robert. 

Frances is thankful to her good friends Bessie and Freddy Palacios , and Luis and Liz Belzu who took great care of her in her time of need.
