Donna Jean Shibley, 80, of Hartwick, New York and formerly of Salisbury, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, February 2, 2020 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by the love and support of her family.
Donna was born on January 29, 1940 at home in Salisbury, New York and was the daughter of the late, Edwin and Helen (Sheppard) Johnson. She was educated at Stratford Central School.
On November 15, 1958, Donna was united in marriage to Gary D. Shibley, Sr. in Salisbury Center, New York. The couple were married for 50 years until Mr. Shibley passed away on February 5, 2009.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker for her family. Donna also cared for and babysat many local children in the Salisbury Corners area while their parents worked.
Donna enjoyed watching game shows, loved animals especially her family cats and visiting with friends and neighbors. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and will be missed dearly by them.
She is survived by her beloved children, Gary D. Shibley, II and his companion, Debra Lowe of Odessa, Fl, Ruth Ann Laskowski of Utica, NY, Karen Rumrill and her husband, Robert Sr.of St. Johnsville, NY and Jacqueline Bailey and her husband, Mark of Hartwick, NY; loving grandchildren, Dylan Elizabeth Jean Shibley, Amanda Black, Gary Shibley III, Lynn Marie Shibley, Laura Laskowski, Emily Guglimelli, Robert Rumrill and his wife, Ann Marie, Cheryl Cavanaugh and her husband, Donald, Christopher Rumrill and his wife, Crystal, Angelina Cardona, Grace Marie Rosario, Shean Bailey, Joshua Bailey, Owen Bailey, Gabreal Bailey: 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Smith and her husband, David of St. Johnsville, NY; a brother, Christopher Johnson of Dolgeville, NY; brothers and sisters in law, Pearl Johnson of Salisbury, NY, Stephen Shibley and Debbie Youker of Nelliston, NY and Susan and Larry Hicks of Fonda, NY; many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
Donna was predeceased by her brothers, Jack Johnson, Gordon Johnson and her twin brother, Dean Johnson, and her sisters Janet Herringshaw and Norma Stone,and their respective spouses, sister-in-law, Nanette "Nan" Johnson and her son-in-law, Donald Laskowski.
A Service of Remembrance will be held when funeral services are available for the public when the Stay Home order has been lifted. All are welcome to attend at that time. The family is being cared for by Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329 (315) 429-7123.
