Delbert "Dellie" M. Longway, Jr., 53, of Salisbury Center, New York, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York after a courageous month-long battle with coronavirus.
He was born on September 9, 1968 and was the son of Delbert M. Longway, Sr. and the late, Gale Johnson. Delbert attended Dolgeville Central School and graduated with the Class of 1988.
Delbert was formerly employed with North Hudson Woodcraft in Dolgeville as a laborer. He also previously worked for Keymark in Fonda.
In his spare time, Delbert enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, four-wheeling and all outdoor activities. He truly enjoyed the time he spent with his family and close friends. Delbert will be dearly missed by them.
He is survived by his beloved parents, Delbert and Polly Longway of Salisbury Center, NY; his children, Rochelle Johnson and her companion, Melissa Miles of the Town of Salisbury, NY, Dylan Quayle of Newport, NY, Alicia Schelemanow of Batavia, NY, and Richard Emmerger of TN; a granddaughter, Cora; sisters and brothers, Tialisa Eckler and her husband, David of Canajoharie, NY, Lanora Romer of Summerfield, FL, Doug Longway and his wife, Jaimie of Marinette, WI, Darren Longway of Salisbury Center, NY and Paula Longway and her fiancé, Steven Kennedy of Canajoharie, NY; the Longway Family, the Johnson Family; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and best friends, Ward Seeley, Chipper Moore and Frank “Danny” Danielski.
He was predeceased by his mother, Gale Johnson and an infant brother, David Longway.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York. Services have been changed. There will be no funeral home service. A graveside funeral service will be held immediately after the calling hours at Curtis Cemetery. He will be laid to rest with his mother, Gale. A Celebration of Life will be held at Salisbury Ridgerunners immediately following the committal service at the cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
