Barbara M. Eder Obituary

Barbara M. Eder, 86, of Dolgeville, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Health Hospital in Syracuse, New York with her loving family by her side.

She was born on June 2, 1936 in Queens, New York and was the daughter of the late, James and Bertha (Sutton) Simmons. Barbara was educated at Jamaica High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. She furthered her education taking college classes.

On August 31, 1974, Barbara was united in marriage to John E. Eder on the beach at Seaside Heights, New Jersey. The couple shared a marriage of nearly 37 years when Mr. Eder passed away on July 23, 2011.

She was formerly employed with Stonybrook University in Stonybrook, New York as a secretary for 10 years. Barbara and her family moved to Dolgeville in 1984, where they raised their children, and made it their home. While in Dolgeville, she also worked for the Big M Supermarket for several years until her retirement.

In her youth, Barbara was a member of the Roller Derby Girl Club and as an adult was part of the Dolgeville Lioness Club. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.

Barbara loved Angela Landsbury and watched, “Murder She Wrote” religiously. Her favorite shows were “Law and Order”, “Columbo”, soap operas and the Hallmark Channel. She loved life, knitting and the actor, Richardo Montalban of the show, “Fantasy Island”. Her favorite time was spent in the company of her loving family and close friends. Barbara will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her two children, John M. Eder and his wife, Lauren of Waterboro, ME and Barbara McCauley and her companion, Michael DiGiovanni of Brewerton, NY; cherished grandchildren, Cassidy, Cailyn, Stella and two bonus granddaughters, Marra and Maddie; her nephew and Godson, Robert Feltman and his wife, Meral and their daughter, great-niece, Irene; nephews, James Feltman, Thomas Feltman and Fred Feltman and their families; a niece, Susan Small and her daughter, great-niece, Taylor; and her two closest friends, Carol Wesley and Meg Ryan, who she spoke to almost everyday for decades. They will forever be a part of her family.

Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Eder, two sisters, Dorothy Feltman and Frances Pol, and her parents, James and Bertha Simmons.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (noon) at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329. A funeral service will immediately follow the calling hours at 12 p.m. (noon) also at the funeral home, with Deacon Jim Bower officiating. A committal service will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, W. State Street, Dolgeville, New York following the funeral service, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, John.
