Barbara B. Doerrer Obituary

Barbara Marta (Brossman) Doerrer, 86, of Dolgeville, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, September 16, 2021 in the comfort of her own home, with her loving husband and cherished family by her side.

She was born July 5th, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of the late, Harold and Wilma (Ludwig) Brossman. Barbara lived in Whitehall and Schuylerville, NY during her elementary years and moved to Palatine Bridge, NY, in the 1940’s. She attended Canajoharie High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. She was employed in the Beech-Nut Life Saver Offices as Secretary to the President.

Barbara married Frederick Doerrer of Ft. Plain in 1957 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. They were both active in the church, teaching Sunday Church School and signing in the choir. Son, William was born in 1965 and she left Beech-Nut to be a stay at home mother. Barbara and Fred moved to Dolgeville in 1966 when they opened a jewelry store, and son, David was born in 1968.

Barbara was very active in her church, The United Lutheran Parish of Dolgeville. She taught Sunday Church School, sang in the choir and up until her passing served as Parish Secretary. She was also instrumental in forming a “special class” for children with special needs. She was very loved at the Pre-School Playhouse where she brought so much joy to all the children who attended for the many years she worked there. She also chaired the local Fresh Air Fund, bringing city children to our area for summer vacation.

Her most precious time was spent in the company of her close knit family. Barbara was especially proud of her grandchildren and cherished her special relationships with each one. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara will be deeply missed by her family.

Barbara leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Frederick Doerrer; two sons, William Doerrer of Dolgeville, NY and David Doerrer of Boston, MA. She also leaves behind three beloved grandchildren, Bethany Ciotola, and her husband, Chris of NJ, Olivia Doerrer of Brooklyn, NY and Johann Doerrer of Boston, MA. Also, four beloved great-grandchildren, Kai, Rowan, Will and Cole. Barbara was so happy to keep in touch with them by computer videos. She also leaves behind her brother, Harold, and his wife, Gloria of Syracuse, NY; a brother in law and sister in law, Eric Doerrer and his wife, Maggie of FL. She considered Donna Doerrer a daughter, and Bella and Theo as her grandchildren. Also close to her heart, were her many good friends from her church family.

She was predeceased by her special auntie, Marta Ludwig and special cousin, George Ludwig who was like a brother to her.

All are welcome to visitation on Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Presbyterian Church, 26 E. Faville Ave., Dolgeville, NY. where the Doerrer family will greet relatives and friends.
