Barbara A. (Furner) Timian Obituary

Barbara A. (Furner) Timian, 85, of Dolgeville, New York and a Sauquoit, New York native, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, December 31, 2023, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York with her loving husband and family by her side.
She was born on January 1, 1938, in Utica, New York and was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Heenan) Furner. Barbara was educated at Sauquoit High School and graduated with the Class of 1955.
On August 24, 1957, Barbara was united in marriage to Arnold R. Timian at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clayville, New York. 
The couple shared a devoted union of 66 years while they raised their five children in a loving home.
After having her children, Barbara furthered her education attending the State University of New York at Oswego where she earned a bachelor's degree in education, graduating in 1976.
She was formerly employed with Dolgeville Central School as a remedial math and algebra teacher. Barbara served the school district for 23 years until her retirement in 2000. She continued to substitute for many years after her retirement.
Barbara was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Dolgeville, New York. She was also a member of the Dolgeville Retired Teachers Association, a leader for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and an advisor for various clubs at Dolgeville Central School, including being the yearbook advisor for many years. In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed traveling, gardening, painting, ceramics, reading, sewing, and playing cards.
Her most precious time was spent in the company of her large family with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by them.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Arnold R. Timian at home; Cynthia McIntosh and her husband, Doug of Taos, NM, Teresa LaFountain and her husband, David of Galway, NY, David Timian and his wife, Laura (Monaghan) of South Royalton, VT, Steven Timian and his wife, Elizabeth (Smith) of South Royalton, VT and Linda Armstrong of South Royalton, VT; 15 grandchildren, Sara (LaFountain) and Chris Korona, Samantha (LaFountain) and Ben Blowers, Lindsay (Timian) and Adam Silvernail, Joshua and Elizabeth (Taylor) Timian, Joseph Timian, Jacob and Tiffanie (DeRosia) Timian, Robert and Haruna (Kamiya) Timian, Barbara Timian, Alexandra Armstrong, Kailee Armstrong, Jason Armstrong, Zachary Armstrong, Cassandra Armstrong, Samuel Armstrong and Sadie Armstrong; 14 great-grandchildren, Camden, Beckett, Sawyer, and Grady Korona, Ella, Breason, Asher, and Charlie Blowers, Lysander, Tirian, and Callia Silvernail, Evelyn and Arabella Timian, and Fiona Timian; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth Lockwood and her husband, Richard; in-laws, Beverly Timian, Gifford Timian, Ken Timian and wife Joane, Elizabeth Furner, and Daniel Curtin; and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, siblings John Furner and Jane (Furner) Brown, as well as her husband, James; and in-laws, Floyd Timian and Phyllis (Timian) Curtin.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 31 North Helmer Avenue, Dolgeville, New York with Rev. Brian K. Slezak officiating. A luncheon will follow at a place to be announced. Burial will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
