Mr. Phillip G. Sorano, 91, a resident of the Wilkinson Residential Health Facility, in Amsterdam, since August of 2015, died there on Friday, December 15, 2017. He formerly lived in Dolgeville for many years.

 

Phillip was born in New Castle, PA., on December 29, 1925, the son of Joseph and Antonette (Coloruotolo) Sorano and was educated in schools in Peekskill, NY.

 

A veteran of WWII he served honorably in the United States Navy from February 1944 until his discharge in February 1946, with the rank of Fireman First Class. He earned the following medals for his service, American Theater Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal.

 

His marriage to the former Betty Jean Lyon, took place on November 25, 1944 in Peekskill, NY in the Baptist parsonage. They celebrated 68 years of marriage prior to Mrs. Sorano’s passing on September 19, 2011.

 

Phillip was employed by the Cherry Burrell Company of Little Falls, NY, retiring from there in 1989 with 45 years of service to the company.

 

He was member of the Independent Union Local of Cherry Burrell Company, and personally enjoyed gardening, and handyman work around the house and also at Lyndon Lyon’s Greenhouse for many years. He was of the Methodist Faith.

 

Surviving are a daughter Donna L. Schatz of Amsterdam, his sons Paul G. Sorano of Dolgeville, Bradley J. and Alice Sorano of Cummings, GA., and Steven A. and Judy Sorano of Gansevoort, NY, and a sister Rebecca Pelosi of Florida. Also  surviving are 7 grandchildren Damon, Seth, Andrew,  Daniela, Amanda, Kristi, and Jenna, and 6 great grandchildren Zachary, Brandon, Rachel, Jacob, Hayden, Mason. Nieces and Nephews. Phillip was predeceased by his sisters Lena Brunner and Aurora Blakeslee, and a grandson Matthew.

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 27, 2017 at 1PM at the Roberts Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville, with the Rev. Anthony Bradseth, pastor of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be held in the Spring in the Dolgeville Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, December 27th, from 11am until the service at 1PM.

 

Memorials may be made to the Dolgeville Methodist Church in his name.
