Martha (Hajeris) Alguire

Martha (Hajeris) Alguire, 94, of Mohawk, New York passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Little Falls, New York.

She was born on January 24, 1924 in Taurage, Lithuania and was the daughter of the late, Ewald and Anna Hajeris.  Martha was educated in Lithuania and after graduation, moved to Germany.  She was a secretary and a nurse before immigrating to the United States in 1951, where she and her family settled in Dolgeville, New York. 

On September 4, 1954, Martha was united in marriage to William J. Alguire, Sr. at the Dolgeville Lutheran Church.  Mr. Alguire passed away on March 19, 1996, after 41 years of marriage. 

In the United States, she worked in local factories and retired from Remington Arms in Ilion, New York.  Martha also received a certificate in Real Estate from Mohawk Valley Community College.  

In her spare time, Martha enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needle point, garage sales, watching politics and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her beloved sisters, Selma Valis of Little Falls, NY, Jane Hajeris of Schuyler, NY, and Olga (Theodore) Snell of Bullhead City, AZ; a step son, William J. (Patricia) Alguire, Jr. of Dolgeville, NY and their children; nieces and nephews including Rita (Lawrence) Thompson of Clinton, NY, Ryan (John) Hajeris of London, England, Erica (Mark) Hagen of Whitesboro, NY, Richard Hajeris of Albany, NY; great nieces and nephews including Bret Thompson of Old Forge, NY, and Carrie (Ryan) Barry of Clinton, NY; and many other great-great nieces and nephews.

Martha was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Richard Hajeris and his wife, Anne, Edwin Hajeris, Walter Hajeris and his wife Sandra,  Zina Brown and her husband, Robert, Alma Dickson and her husband, Charles, Gerhart "Gary" Hajeris and his wife Maryann and a brother in law, Victor Valis.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, 3 E. Faville Avenue, Dolgeville, New York 13329 with Rev. R.W. Williams officiating.  A graveside service will follow the memorial service in Dolgeville Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Little Falls Hospital for their dedicated care and compassion that has been shown to Martha throughout the years.
