Margaret L. Williams, 90, of Mohawk and formerly of Dolgeville , New York , passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer , New York , where she had been a resident for the last three years.
She was born on April 25, 1928 in Fairfield , New York and was the daughter of the late Frank and Flossie (Allen) Lamphere. Margaret attended Dolgeville schools and was raised with twelve siblings. She was of the Baptist faith and attended several Baptist churches in the area including Emanuel Baptist Church.
On April 25, 1945, Margaret was united in marriage to Claude J. Williams in Fort Plain, New York. The couple shared a loving union for 44 years until Mr. Williams passed on December 23, 1989.
Margaret owned and operated Williams Farm on the former, Williams Road, which is known today as Barker Road . She worked alongside her husband on the farm as well as raising her five children. She also worked at Bush's Haven, a healthcare facility in Dolgeville as a nurse's aide. Margaret and Claude sold the farm in 1979 and moved to Newport for several years and then moved to Mohawk where she resided for 30 years.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and gardening. Margaret loved being a mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family.
She is survived by her beloved children, David Williams and his wife, Elaine of Mohawk, NY, Carol Edmands and her husband, Bert of Wellsville, NY, Mark Williams and his wife, Mary of Springfield Center, NY, Dean Williams and his wife, Sheryl of Hearne, TX, and Phyllis Rokes and her husband, Allyn of Franklin, TX; a brother, Franklin Lamphere and his wife, Dorothy of Fairfield, NY; sisters in law, Ethel Lamphere of Herkimer, NY, Betty Lamphere of Poland, NY, Jean Lamphere of Salisbury Center, NY, and Esther Lamphere of Richfield Springs, NY; 15 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was predeceased by her siblings, William Daley, Eugene Lamphere, Edith Johnson, Arthur Lamphere, Jay Lamphere, Isabelle Lee, Emerson Lamphere, Glenn Lamphere and three infant siblings, Joshua, Roger and Hazel Lamphere.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street , Dolgeville , New York . A funeral service will be held immediately following calling hours on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 4 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be held in the spring at Rural Park Cemetery , Ingham's Mills, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Claude.
