Lydia V. Mahardy, 67, of Dolgeville, New York passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2019 in the comfort of her home, after a courageous, eight year battle with cancer.
She was born on October 3, 1951 in Grand Island, New York and was the daughter of Robert and Betty (Purdy) Bull. Lydia graduated with a bachelor's degree in teaching from Brockport State. She then went on to teach elementary students for 33 years, the last 31 years at Dolgeville Central School. This is also where she met her husband, William. Together, they shared 37 wonderful years.
Lydia's greatest joy was her family, home, friends, students and hosting family dinners. She was a proud sports Mom as she watched her sons and grandchildren throughout the years in their many athletic events. These last few years, the most joy she received was any opportunity to be with her grandchildren.
For many years, Lydia enjoyed spring break in Myrtle Beach with family and friends, summer camping trips to the Thousand Islands and Piseco Lake, and looked forward to going out with friends for Friday night dinners. After retirement, Lydia and William loved to travel especially to the National Parks in the western part of the U.S. and Canada including Alaska. The Maine coast was also one of her favorite places. When her health allowed, winters were spent in Clearwater, Florida and the Villages, Florida which she immensely enjoyed.
Lydia is survived by her husband, William at home; her children, Michael Tanner and his wife, Denise, Marc Tanner and his wife, Kate, and Matthew Mahardy and his wife, Cyrece; eight cherished granchildren, Julia, Lily, Michael, Evan, Madolyn, William, Claire, and Dominick; her sister, Cindy Bull; her brother, Kevin Bull and his wife, Ann; special cousin, Linda Ferris; a sister in law, Patricia Mahardy and her husband, Jack; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Bob Bull and his wife, Marilyn.
