Lawrence Kiss Jr. Obituary

Mr. Lawrence P. Kiss Jr., 69, of 107 Court Street, Herkimer, died unexpectedly on Saturday May 5, 2018, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica, due to medical complications from open heart surgery. At the time of his passing he was comforted with love and support from his daughter Lauren, her wife Jaime and his close friends Fred, Yvonne & Brenden Kovits and Katie Whitcomb.

Lawrence was born in Meriden, CT., on September 9, 1948, the son of the late Lawrence P. and Florence (Dembiczak) Kiss Sr.

He was employed early on in his career as Entertainment Security at Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, CT. He then spent the better part of thirty years as the only accomplished Lip Fitter at Morganite Crucible, also of Wallingford.   Most recently he served as a facilities manager for KinderCare Child Daycare Centers of Connecticut until his retirement.

Lawrence loved to dance, especially to the music of the 50’ and 60’s. He was an avid gun enthusiast, and loved target shooting and collecting guns. He also liked classic cars, Hot Rods, Jeeps and cruise nights.  He was a skilled carpenter and craftsman, building and repairing almost anything, including the sets for many high school theatre productions over the years while his daughter was in school. As an avid photographer he enjoyed capturing the candid and joyful moments of life, leaving us wonderful memories. In fact, he served as wedding photographer for dear friends Fred and Yvonne.

Out of all he loved, his daughter Lauren, and daughter-in-law Jaime, and lifetime friends and chosen family Fred and Yvonne, were especially important to him.

He is survived by his daughter Lauren of Simsbury, CT., his daughter in law Jaime Skiba Kiss, his dearest friends Fred and Yvonne Kovits, their sons Virgil Smith &  his godson Brenden Kovits (fiancé Katie Whitcomb). In addition, he leaves 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He was predeceased by a sister Cynthia.

Larry was the happiest sitting on a deck, relaxing, whether it was at his daughter’s, or his friend’s houses,  arms back facing the sun, especially if he had a slice of Frank Pepe’s Pizza in his hand. He was a wonderful father and a dear friend who will be deeply missed.

In keeping with his wishes there are no calling hours or services at this time.

His arrangements are entrusted to the Roberts Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville, NY.
