Dolgeville Dateline

Mr. James Henry Newport 82 of 274 Lotville Road, Dolgeville, Town of Oppenheim, died Wednesday December 28, 2016 at the Alpine Nursing Home in Little Falls. He was a resident there since July of 2015.

Jim was born in Little Falls, on August 28, 1934 the son of Leo and Kathryn (Pauley) Newport and attended Dolgeville schools.

A veteran of the United States Army, he served honorably from January 1957 until his discharge in December 1958. He earned the rank of SP4 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.

 He was united in Marriage to the former Lucille J. Leavitt on September 3, 1965. She predeceased him on June 1, 2010.

Jim was employed by the United State Postal Service as a letter carrier from 1966 until 1998, 35 years of great service.

Jim was also a part time Dolgeville Police Officer from June of 1970 until April of 1981.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 4th, 2016 at 11 AM at the Roberts Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Rev. Jack A. Ford of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will be held in the Spring in the Stratford Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10 Am-until the service,
