Mrs. Helen B. Pavalock, 98, a former Dolgeville resident, and who had been residing in Port St. Lucie, Florida since 1979, died on October 21 at the Terrace of Hobe Sound Nursing Home after a brief illness. Helen was born on February 8th, 1920 in the Town of German Flats. She was the daughter of Michael and Paulina (Musser) Burchyski and attended Herkimer Schools. Helen was left orphaned at an early age and was raised along with her brothers by both her older sister, Mary, and her beloved Grandmother, Teckla Musser, of whom she had many fond memories.
Helen was united in marriage to Harry J. Pavalock on June 20, 1942 in Johnstown, New York. Her husband predeceased her on March 22, 1986.
While a resident of Dolgeville, Helen was employed by the former Daniel Green Shoe Company, retiring several years ago. She was also a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dolgeville.
As a resident of Florida, Helen was a member of the Port St. Lucie Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Port St. Lucie Shuffleboard Club where she served as Past President, Team Captain, and a longtime member of the Executive Board. Helen was honored by being inducted into the Indian River League Shuffleboard Club Hall of Fame in 1997. In addition, she was a member of the Polish American Social Club in Port St. Lucie where she was an active volunteer.
Helen is survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Peter T. Kurto, her nephew who was her caretaker for many years, and his wife, Carol of Saratoga Springs and Jupiter and her niece, Karen Darling of Altamont. Her brothers Jacob, John and Joseph and her sister Mary, predeceased Helen.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church on Helmer Avenue in Dolgeville, NY on November 3rd at 11:00am. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on November 3rd from 9:30-10:30 am at the Roberts Funeral Home in Dolgeville, NY.
