Mrs. Alexandria “Toot” Near, 106, Dolgeville’s oldest resident and former business women, of 37 South Main Street Dolgeville, a resident of Homelife at Folts, Herkimer, New York, died there on Sunday evening November 5, 2017.

Mrs. Near was born in Dolgeville, on December 27, 1910 the daughter of Sebastiano and Margherita (Forino) Russo and was educated in Dolgeville schools. She continued her education by graduating from Beauty School and became a licensed beautician.

Toot as she was known throughout the area, operated Alexis Beauty Salon for several years on Main Street in Dolgeville.

Her marriage to Henry L. Near took place on September 23, 1950 in New Hampshire. Mr. Near predeceased her on June 19, 1986.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Dolgeville, the Sprite Club in the town of Oppenheim, and was a member of the former Dolgeville Business Association.

She is survived by Nephews and Nieces, among those are James and his wife Lois LaBate of Frankfort, and Joseph LaBate and his companion Joan DuPont of Little Falls. She was predeceased by her brother Andrew Russo, and sisters Mary Graney, Millie Antinelli and Marguerite and her husband Joseph LaBate.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday morning at 11 AM, at St. Joseph’s Church Helmer Avenue Dolgeville. Rev. Terence Healy, Sacramental Minister, assisted by Deacon James Bower, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday November 9, 2017 from 3-5 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville.
