Mr. Richard Allan Carpenter, LPN, 69, of 6166 State Route 29A, Stratford, died unexpectedly Sunday evening September 17th, 2017 at Little Falls Hospital, after suffering an apparent heart attack at his residence.
Richard was born on April 23, 1948, in Little Falls, the son of Ernest R. and Jessie E. (Vedder) Carpenter and was a graduate of Dolgeville High School class of 1966.
He was united in marriage to the former Teal Sherwood on July 8, 1972 in the Dolgeville Universalist Church. They recently celebrated 45 years of marriage.
Richard, for many years farmed, until at age 45 he returned to school and completed the BOCES course in nursing and received his LPN license. Upon completion of school he was employed by the Lexington Center in Gloversville as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Richard had a “Green Thumb” which was very evident by his beautiful flower, vegetable and tomato gardens . He was also a volunteer for Troop 18 Boy Scouts, helping with the many bottle drives and yearly chicken bar-b-que’s. He was a faithful member of the First Universalist Society of Salisbury Center, and was serving as the President of the trustees of the church.
He is survived by his wife Teal, his sons Nathan Carpenter and his fiancée’ Heather Perkins of Dolgeville, Mica and his wife Marie Carpenter of Stratford, his grandchildren Kent Palabon, Tristan Carpenter, Micarie Carpenter, Madisyn Carpenter, and Ethan Hart, his brothers and their wives Bruce (Laurie) Carpenter, Dolgeville, Lynn (Tema) Carpenter, Dolgeville, his sisters Norma Van Heusen of Herkimer, Cindy (Erin) Loren of Poland, Charlene (Mike) Burke of Mississippi, Lois( Richard) Jones of Dolgeville, Lenore Brys of Stratford, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Sarah, his brothers Terry and Norman.
Funeral services will be held Friday- September 22nd, 2017 at 2:30 PM at the Universalist Church, in Salisbury Center. Rev. Jeff Frank will officiate. The family will be present from Noon until 2pm to receive friends at the church.
Memorials in Richards name may be made to the Universalist Church in Salisbury Center. Envelopes will be available at the services.
