Mr. Leonard H. Yatarola 83, a resident of the Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing facility, Little Falls, since November 2016, died there on Monday October 24, 2017 after an extended illness.

 

Leonard was born in Dolgeville, on July 5, 1934, the son of Pio J. and Helen (Aiello) Yatarola, and was a graduate of Dolgeville High School, class of 1952.

 

He was employed by the Daniel Green Company of Dolgeville for over 45 years, retiring from there when the company moved to Maine.

 

Leonard was a devout Catholic, attending daily and weekly Mass, both at St. Joseph’s Church in Dolgeville and Holy Family Parrish in Little Falls. He personally was a sports enthusiast, an avid Notre Dame fan, and followed all sports, baseball, football, hockey, basketball, and could recall all of the statistics of any one game at any time. Leonard’s favorite saying was “Shoot the breeze” with his friends at Stewarts, Motors and the Dolgeville News Store.

 

He was formerly married to Sue Darling.

 

Leonard is survived by his children Guy Yatarola of Stratford, Greg Yatarola of Maryland, a daughter Jodi Decker of Dolgeville, a Stepson James Lyon and his daughter Kendra of Salt Lake City, Utah, a brother Rudolph “Rudy” Yatarola of Salisbury, his grandchildren Mariah McDaniel of St. Johnsville, and Blake Decker of Dolgeville, Nephew sand a Niece.

 

Leonard’s wishes were to have his body donated to the Anatomical Gift Program at Upstate Medical University of Syracuse. There are No calling hours or services at this time.

 

Memorials in his name may be made to St. Joseph’s Memorial Fund 31 North Helmer Avenue Dolgeville, NY 13329.
