Mr. Kenneth Roger Allen Sr. 93, of 135 Allen Road Stratford, died Thursday December 29th, 2016 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer, where he was a resident since June of this year.

He was born in Newport, on July 25, 1923 the son of Earl and Gertrude (Filkins) Allen and was educated in local schools.

Ken was united in marriage to the former Betty Jean Daley on July 31st, 1953 in Caroga Lake, New York. They recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Mr. Allen was a retired custodian and night watchman for the Stratford School district. He also was employed throughout his working years with the Town of Stratford and also North Hudson Woodcraft Company of Dolgeville.

His love of the outdoors found him enjoying hunting and fishing and trapping in his leisure time. He was also an avid gardener, specializing in growing corn. His trapping was thru the New York State Department of Conservation.

A veteran of the United States Navy he served honorably from October of 1945 until he was discharged in August of 1946. He earned the American Theater Medal and the Victory Medal for his service.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Betty Jean, His children and their spouses Barbara & Daniel Sheehan, Mark Allen, Sharon & George Comstock, Brian Allen and his companion Debra, Kenneth & Dawn Allen Jr., April & James Comstock, Bradley & Sandra Allen, Scott & Christine Allen, Wayne & Elaine Allen, Wade Allen and his companion Theresa, his grandchildren Daniel Sheehan Jr., Mark Allen Jr., Travis Allen, Georgette Jodway, April Jenison, Letisha Allcorn, Aris Bird, Lora Allen, Kenneth Allen III, Jena Haas, Olivia Allen, Chrystal Comstock, Joshua Comstock, Caleb Comstock, Ethan Comstock, Brook Lanphere, Blair Cromling, Bradley Allen Jr., Angela Allen, Nicole Allen, Mathew Allen, Carri Allen, Mackenzie Allen, Parker Allen, Holly Allen, 15 Great Grandchildren, a Brother Lloyd Allen of Milford, New York. He was predeceased by his brothers Earl Jr., Morris, and Elwin, his Sisters, Beverly Coveny-Allen, Shirley Allen and Dorothy Davidson-Allen.

Funeral services will be held Monday January 2nd, 2017 at 1 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. His son Kenneth R. Allen Jr. will officiate. Spring burial with Military Honors will be in the Stratford Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 11AM until the time of the service at 1 PM.
