Mr. Earl J. Youker 82 of 892 Piseco Road, a retired Highway Superintendent, for the Town of Stratford, died Tuesday afternoon July 25, 2017 at his residence after a brief illness. At the time of his passing he was comforted with love and support by his wife and family.

 

Earl was born in the town of Salisbury on January 5, 1935 the son of Earl W. and Nina (Sponable) Youker and attended local school.

 

A veteran of the United State Army he served during the Korean War from September 1954 until he was honorably discharged in September 1957.  He served with Co. B 505th Bat Group and earned the rank of SP3, along with the Lt. Weapons Infantry Badge and the Parachutist Badge.

 

He was united in marriage to the former Dawn R. Rockwell on March 7, 1959 in the Salisbury Methodist Parsonage.

 

Earl was last employed by the Town of Stratford, serving as the Superintendent of Highways, retiring from there in 1998 with 20 years of service to the town.

 

He was a Past Fire Chief of the Stratford Fire Department and recently was awarded a plaque for 50 years of service to the department, a former President, and Life time member of the East Canada Fish & Game Club, the Snow Drifters Snowmobile Club and a member of the Highway Superintendents Association of Fulton County. He personally enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and camping throughout the years.

 

Earl is survived by his wife Dawn of 58 years, his sons Earl (Leigh Anne) Youker Jr. of Stratford, Jeremy Youker of Dolgeville, his daughters Laurie (Bruce) Carpenter Dolgeville, Pamela (Joseph) Ward of Mohawk, Eileen Kadle and her companion Steve Noyes of Jefferson, NH, Julie Alling and her companion Craig Larcomb of Jefferson, NH, a brother Harvey Youker of Horseheads, NY and a sister Christine (John) Steciak of Dolgeville 13 Grandchildren 6 Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by his Brothers and Sisters.

 

In keeping with his wishes there are NO Funeral Services or Calling Hours.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Stratford Fire Department in his memory.
